For the poor uncultured buggers who aren't familiar with the original painting>>> [link]

One of my most frustrating classes here at the college is Studio Drawing from the Masters, in which we are theoretically supposed to be learning how to think like the masters; but in reality, we're learning how to draw with their less-advanced drawing tools (i.e. chalk that more closely resembles a rock). But we got a break: this week's assignment was to take a painting and create a "lost study" for it in the style that particular master practiced. I hope any and all equine artists on DA are at least familiar with the Stubbs anatomical plates (and if not, google it. NOW).

Herein are many inaccuracies, but to be fair, Stubbs wasn't perfect either--he had this weird thing going on with his horse's shoulders that I think might have had to do with the horse's age at the time of its death...*meanders off on a tangent*

Technically speaking, these were an absolute pain. I had to grid out the painting, then transfer Hambletonian's outline onto another gridded paper, which became my template for these, which had to be inter-referenced constantly, as Stubbs drew as he dissected: meaning that there is no "muscular" template, because he always had parts of the horse more cut open than others. *gross out sounds* No, these aren't "bad scans." I tinted the paper gray so as to match the "look" of the other stubbs works.

</historical rant> Can you tell I delivered a paper on this guy before?
